sweetEye is a personal site for inspirational nuggets I run across.
The title is taken from a line by the 14th century Christian mystic Julian of Norwich:
“The sweet Eye of love and compassion never ceases to gaze at us”
Accepting this love (accepting we are worthy of this unconditional grace), loving God in return, and sharing it with our fellow homo sapiens is the whole point. Of everything. Richard Rohr says it better than I can:
“A number of saints spoke of prayer itself as simply receiving the ever-benevolent gaze of God, returning it in kind, mutually gazing, and finally recognizing that it is one single gaze received and bounced back”
“The big and hidden secret is this: an infinite God seeks and desires intimacy with the human soul”
And from another author:
“Anyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Anyone who fails to love can never know God, because God is love” (1 John 4:7-8)
